The Fort Washington Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., has long been involved in charitable activities. Some members wanted to expand our charitable presence in the community and work more effectively with community leaders. As a result, the Polemarch formed an ad hoc committee to identify options and suggestions. After considerable research, the committee recommended, and the chapter agreed, that a community foundation could provide an effective means to begin the collaborative process.

In 2019, The Fort Washington Foundation of Prince George’s County (FWKF) was formed, and became a Maryland, 501 © 3 charitable organization. Its focus was to collaborate with community leaders and organizations. Its purpose was to provide an independent, philanthropic arm of the chapter. Specifically, it would provide services, find sponsors and donors and solicit grants that could provide assistance to the Prince George’s County community.

The FWKF is now in its second year of operation and has made an impact on the community in several ways. With the help of Booz, Allen Hamilton, Inc., and other donors, the FWKF has helped fund scholarships and youth leadership activities. The FWKF also assisted in meeting the educational needs of children who are victims of domestic violence, and provided funds for electronic equipment for the Family Justice Center of Maryland. In addition, a member of the 100% Warriors, a veteran organization, has joined the FWKF Board of Directors, and has begun helping to raise funds for the Foundation’s scholarship program.

Vision & Mission

The Foundations’ vision is for professional men to show a greater presence in our community through volunteerism. Our impact will be represented through role modeling, mentoring, structured involvement and open access to economic scholarships, physical presence, personal resources and community service.

The Foundation will address disparities that impact youth and communities while empowering them to acquire the necessary skills and resources that lead to lifelong success.
